Modern Foreign Languages



The modern foreign language curriculum at Wheatfield Primary School focuses on French. Learning a second language will offer pupils the opportunity to explore relationships between language and identity, develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them with a better awareness of self, key individuals and cultural differences. At Wheatfield Primary School we want all pupils to feel able and encouraged to continue studying languages beyond key stage 2.

Pupils at Wheatfield Primary School are taught French using the Rachel Hawkes scheme of work.  The pupils start with learning the phonic sounds and build up to simple words and phrases and correct use of grammar. In YR6, there are opportunities for revision and consolidation of essential KS2 language. 

Also at Wheatfield Primary School our KS2 pupils have the oppportunity to join the after school French club. The afterschool French club, runs on a weekly basis and we find that this helps promote the love for learning a foreign lanuage and also helps develope the learning they have learnt in school.
